I am applying for the Tax Graduate Position starting in 2015 and want to ask as to how much knowledge about tax is expected/assessed from the Graduate applicants in tax? What kind of things are being discussed with the partner in the final interview stage?
Many Thanks for responses!
In my experience, very little technical knowledge of tax will be expected during the application (unless of course you have a degree / qualification in tax already). Generally Deloitte expects no prior knowledge of specialist subjects - everything you need to know will be taught to you during the graduate programme and as part of the professional qualifications you will sit.
It is much more important to show an interest in and awareness of topical tax matters. For example, this could include the recent debate about where multinationals such as Amazon and Starbucks should pay their tax, or the change to the top rate of income tax from 50% to 45%. Being aware of these sorts of topics and having an opinion on them will be more important than having any technical knowledge about how tax is calculated.
I hope that helps - let me know if you have any further questions.
